- Tennessee was originally the western part of North Carolina.
Several efforts were made to separate the western counties into
their own state. They finally gained admittance in 1796. Tennessee
is from the Cherokee Tanasi, a Cherokee village name.
- Jonesboro Tennessee was originally spelled as Jonesborough.
It was also the Capital of the State of Franklin, which never
gained recognition and failed to become a new state of the American
Union. In the heart of town resides a small hotel who's claim
to fame is a one night stay by George Washington. The hotel eventually
became the towns Library. The town is also the home of the National
Storytellers Association and hosts an annual convention in the
fall.
- Carolina was an English colony between 1663 and 1729. It
included what is now North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia,
Northern Florida and Tennessee.
- North Carolina was one of the original 13 States of the New
American Union.
- Western North Carolina was eventually severed and became
the State of Tennessee. Washington County North Carolina was
part of that severance and became Carter County Tennessee. Which
eventually became known as Johnson County, Tennessee.
