- Jonesborough Boy, 19, Loses Life in Nazi Fight
- The War Department has notified Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Carey of
West Main Street, Jonesborough, their son, Pfc. Charles B. Carey
was killed in action in Germany May 1.
In service since December 1, 1943, the 19 year old private went
overseas in January of this year. He had early training at Fort
Knox, Ky. and Fort George G. Meade. Md.before he went overseas
in January, 1945. He attended Jonesborough high school.

- Surviving besides the parents are two brothers, David Carey
of Jonesborough, and A.T. Carey, Jr., SM third class, U.S. Navy,
now serving at a PT boat base in the Southwest Pacific war area.
The seaman has been in service since January, 1943, going overseas
in January, 1945.

- Memorial Services for Charles Carey
Memorial services for Pfc. Charles B. Carey, who was killed in
action at Hillpolding Germany, on May 1 while serving with a
forward division of the U.S. Army, will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday at Jackson Park Church of the Brethren in Jonesborough.
Services will be in charge of Elder Sam Garst of Blountville
and the Rev. Jacob C. Wine, pastor.

- Charles was killed in battle while in his tank soon after
his wife sent him a letter telling him she wanted a divorce.
Because of the letter, his mother received his benefits from
the military. He was named for both his mother's father and his
father's father.
