Using Backgrounds

Backgrounds can be a wonderful way to spruce up a web page or create a specific look for a business, personal or hobby site. A background is actual a color code or a graphic file that a web browser will "tile" across the PC screen.

You can use a graphic like this one which lays a faint image of the SpringWolf Designs name on top of the colored background.

Large organizations or companies have moved to a more simpler presentation and keep their backgrounds plain white. Some however, that use a single website for multiple sections or grouping of information, may change backgrounds to help the user differentiate between sections.

This can be useful when the change in section is a major change in topic. But it can be slightly annoying when a designer changes colors for the sake of changing colors.

Some people who chose to use a dark background, will invert the color of their text. Using either white or even yellow. The effect can be eye catching for a particular subject matter, such as the one displayed here for StarTrek™ .

Using Graphics Which ever method you chose, just make sure your text can be seen on the background. Not just for text, but for your links and visited links as well. Otherwise they might come out looking like the example to the left.
